Goin' Up on the Mountain

I learned this song on a hike with a friend and love teaching it in my classes. The first line is the "call" and can be anything the caller wants to sing - the recorded version here has a few verses, but this can be sung for as long as callers contribute new first lines. The following three lines are sung by all.

lyrics

Goin' up on the mountain (or any first line)
I ain't comin' down till tomorrow

Goin' up on the mountain (repeat caller's first line)
I ain't comin' down in chains.

I want to sing like the bird sings, not worrying who listens or what they think. - Jelaludding Rumi
